Safety update

Important message from Principal Commerford

The following message is from ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú High School Principal Jodi Commerford.

Dear Families,

As a follow-up to Monday afternoon’s security incident at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú High School, we would like to share some additional information and resources.

As you may know from our previous communications, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú High School initiated lockdown measures at approximately 1:20 p.m. Monday due to an altercation between students involving a pair of scissors.

Following this altercation, emergency medical personnel transported a student to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú police took another student into custody.

When a lockdown is in place, all students and employees remain in a safe area out of sight of the door until released by security personnel.

The school transitioned into a hold-in-place at about 1:40 p.m. and remained in that protocol until we returned to regular security procedures at about 2:45 p.m. During a hold-in-place, regular procedures are followed in classrooms and offices while movement throughout the building is limited.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú immediately mobilized its crisis support protocols to provide support to everyone in our school community affected by this incident.

Witnessing, or even hearing about a trauma can affect us in so many ways. Now, or in the coming days, weeks or even months, your child may have a variety of feelings. As always, our student support team members will remain available to support your students at school.

You also can use the resources linked below to support your children at home. We ask that everyone remain sensitive and respectful to all who may be impacted by this incident.
