Our ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú High seniors who are working towards earning the Seal of Civic Readiness on their high school diplomas participated the facilitated by the People’s Perception Project (P3) and the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Chapter of the NAACP on Thursday, Nov. 8.
For the past several years, these local organizations have participated in this partnership to engage our seniors in real world application civic engagement and change.
The focus of this first assembly was to understand a civic mission and power in society. Students heard presentations by guest speakers from P3, NAACP and All Of Us and were invited to share ideas and feedback about how civic engagement can effect change in our local community and beyond.
Later presentations will include a Civic Fair where students will interact with community organizations, as well as a series of workshops to support students as they develop their Seal of Civic Readiness capstone projects.
By working on their capstone projects throughout the 2024-2025 academic year, our seniors will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills they have learned in social studies classes and other related courses by identifying an issue in their community that they can address and developing a plan to do so.
We are proud of these students who are showing a readiness to make a tangible and positive change in the world by raising their own voices and elevating the voices of those experiencing injustices, prejudices and inequities in our society.
