Jan. 12 COVID-19 cases

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú was notified Wednesday of 29 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú County Health Department has identified no additional contacts with these cases unless otherwise noted. 

All positive cases and the 34 associated unvaccinated contacts are required to quarantine. 

As a reminder for families that have picked up a COVID-19 test kit, please follow the testing guidance that you received with your kit. If your student tests positive, please be sure to report that result to the county health department . Please contact your school if you were not able to pick up your student's test kit last week.

Seven cases involve ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú High School:

  • Three cases are associated with ninth grade. One individual was last in the building on Dec. 20, one on Jan. 3 and one on Jan. 5.
  • Two cases are associated with 10th grade. One individual was last in the building Dec. 20, and the other Dec. 21. 
  • In a case associated with 11th grade, the individual was last in the building Jan. 3.
  • In a case associated with 12th grade, the individual was last in the building Jan. 5.

Four cases are involve Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School. One case is associated with sixth grade, one with seventh grade, one with eighth grade and one with an individual not associated with a specific grade. All individuals were last in the building Jan. 5.

Three cases are associated with Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence:

  • One case is associated with third grade. This individual was last in the building Jan. 5. The health department has identified nine additional contacts, all of whom are required to quarantine.
  • Two cases are associated with fifth grade. One individual was last in the building Dec. 21. The other individual was last in the building Jan. 5. The health department has identified three additional contacts with this case, all of whom are required to quarantine.

Three cases involve Delaware Community School:

  • One is associated with second grade. This individual was last in the building Jan. 5.
  • Another is associated with fifth grade. This individual also was last in the building Jan. 5.
  • In the third case, the individual was last in the building Jan. 3.

Two cases are associated with ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú School of Humanities (ASH). One case involves kindergarten. This individual was last in the building Dec. 21. In the second case, the individual was last in the building Jan. 5. The health department has identified eight additional contacts with this case, all of whom are required to quarantine.

Two cases involve Arbor Hill Elementary School, associated with prekindergarten and fifth grade. Both individuals were last in the building Dec. 21.

Two cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School. In one case associated with prekindergarten, the individual was last in the building Jan. 4. The second case is associated with third grade. This individual was last in the building Jan. 5.

Two cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School. In a case associated with first grade, the individual was last in the building Dec. 21. In the second case, the individual was last in the building Jan. 7.

Two cases are associated with Pine Hills Elementary School. One case is associated with third grade. This individual was last in the building Jan. 3. The other case is associated with fifth grade. This individual was last in the building Jan. 5. The health department has identified seven additional contacts with this case, but two are not required to quarantine as they are fully vaccinated.

One case is associated with first grade at Giffen Memorial Elementary School. This individual was last in the building Jan. 5. The health department has identified 11 additional contacts, but two are not required to quarantine as they are fully vaccinated.

The final case Wednesday is associated with both Giffen and Sheridan Preparatory Academy. This individual was last in the building Jan. 7.

Health and safety procedures at all district buildings continue to include cleaning and sanitizing. We will continue with these procedures, and also will continue to follow all required COVID-19 precautions (wearing masks inside all district buildings, hand hygiene, social distancing of 3 feet or more in all classrooms, and other precautions).

We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:

  1. Maintain social distance at all times from those you don’t live with.
  2. Always wear a mask that covers both the mouth and nose when inside at school or when your student is riding a bus to or from school.
  3. Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  4. Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
  5. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:
  • Signs of COVID-19 are: fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way.
