Weekly update from Principal Paolino

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend and wish a Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and adoptive and surrogate fathers who go above and beyond each day for their family! The last full week of school has finally arrived – we are close, but not quite finished! NWEA Reading assessments continued through last week and we also administered the Living Environment Regents last Friday. Our elementary student visits for incoming sixth-graders concluded with New Scotland Elementary students. I hope all our visitors enjoyed a glimpse of their future classes, teachers, guidance counselors and overall culture and climate of the building. We look forward to officially welcoming them as sixth-graders in the fall!

Please note, locker cleanout is this week! To ensure that personal items are brought home and all classroom materials are properly returned and stored, specific days for locker cleanout have now been assigned to each grade. During these assigned periods, teachers will allow small groups to go to their lockers and clean them out. Please remind your children to bring home their personal items as we are not responsible for items left behind or lost after locker cleanouts.  The cleanout schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday – Grade 7
  • Friday – Grades 6 and 8

Emancipation Day, or “Juneteenth,” commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, is this Wednesday, June 19. There will be no school on this day.

The Eighth-Grade Dance for the Class of 2024 will be held this Friday from 6-9 p.m. in the Hackett Middle School grand foyer. The dance is a semiformal affair and students should dress appropriately.

PARENTS OF EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS:

  • The Moving-Up Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 at 9 a.m. Mandatory moving-up rehearsals will be held on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25, with tickets being distributed at the conclusion of rehearsal on Tuesday, June 25. Students eligible to participate in the Moving-Up Ceremony must pass ALL their subjects as well as be in good behavioral standing.
  • PLEASE BE ADVISED that we will continue with our new security procedures on Moving-Up Day.  In addition to having a ticket to enter the building for the ceremony, please be reminded you must also have valid identification. In anticipation of the many families and friends expected to attend, I would advise you to arrive early.  Doors will open at 8 a.m.  Thank you for your understanding!

... and that was the week that was!
