Rhythm rundown

The colder weather has finally arrived, making our Winter Concert feel more like a winter concert! It is scheduled for this Monday, Dec. 9, at Hackett Middle School at 6:30 p.m. We hope that many of you will be able to attend to hear our wonderfully talented students perform.

We would also like to take this time to highlight and thank our music staff, Mr. Phelps and Mrs. DeLauro. They work so hard to build and grow our students' musical talents. 

• Mr. Phelps serves as our building band and orchestra teacher. Due to his expertise in both areas, we are lucky enough to have him full-time in our building. This is very unique, as many music teachers divide their time between schools. Having Mr. Phelps full-time allows him to really connect with our students and has increased our band and orchestra enrollment. Can you believe we have a total of 145 students in band and orchestra, with 41 band and 26 orchestra students performing in our winter concert?!
• If you have ever been lucky enough to hear Mrs. DeLauro sing, you would know right away that she is just perfect for our Chorus teacher. Our ever-growing Chorus, with 60 students, fills our hallways with such wonderful sounds. In addition to teaching chorus, Mrs. Delauro also teaches all of our general music classes. 

We look forward to celebrating the hard work and talent of our students at the concert!

Student Leadership Team update

Reading Buddies are back! Prior to the COVID pandemic, students in the upper grades read to students in the lower grades. Last school year, students asked if we could bring this back and so we did. Students in grades 4 and 5 will be paired up with students in kindergarten and grade 1. 

Thank you, PTA!

The New Scotland Elementary PTA recently hosted two successful events at our school: Harvest Night and Craft Night. The events have become NSES traditions! On behalf of the school’s community, we thank the PTA for their continued support and tireless efforts to make positive and festive memories for our students.

• Dec. 9 – Winter Concert (to be held at Hackett Middle School), 6:30 p.m.
• Dec. 11 – PTA meeting, 6 p.m.
• Dec. 23-Jan 1 – Holiday recess, no school
• Jan. 2 – Back to school!
